What is the NHS App and the NHS Website?

The NHS wishes to give people better ways to see their personal health information.  Whilst using the NHS App or the NHS Website you can order prescriptions, book and cancel appointments and access your health records online.  You can see test results sooner and it also allows you to read and review notes from your appointments, in your own time.  Owned and run by the NHS, your NHS Account is a simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services online.

Do I need an NHS Account/Login to access the NHS App or NHS Website?

Yes.  When you first wish to use the NHS App or NHS Website you have to create an NHS account and login.  You will need an email address and mobile phone number to set this up.  If your phone number matches the one you have registered with your GP, this will be used to verify your identity.  Otherwise, you will need to provide proof of identity - in person.  This is so you can connect to your NHS record.  It also protects your health information.  Once you have registered and passed all identity checks, you can log in to the NHS App or NHS Website.

Is my personal information secure on the NHS App and NHS Website?

Yes. The NHS App and the NHS Website are very secure, so no one is able to access your information except you.  You are responsible for making sure you protect your login details.  Do not share your password with anyone as they will then have access to your personal information.

Do I have to download the NHS App?

No.  We appreciate some people do not have a device they can use to download the NHS App, or choose not to download it.  We do however, recommend downloading the NHS app for the best user experience.  Although logging in to the NHS Website is still a quick and easy way to access your NHS Account.

You can apply to have access to your record via GP Online Services; you would access your record with the same system you can use to book appointments online and order your repeat prescriptions. e.g. NHS App

There are a number of important features of this service which we would like to point out:

You must either, complete a form, sign it and hand it in at reception in order to apply for this access and photographic ID with evidence of current address must be shown, or you can apply online, however we would still need you to verify your ID in person.

Your application must be considered by a member of clinical staff before being approved, as it could be that for some patients access is not appropriate

The processing of requests must be completed by the practice within 21 days of receiving the application.

See our patient information leaflet (Word document). Please familiarise yourself with the content before completing an application form (Word document).

If you wish to apply for access to this service, please ask for an application pack from the surgery.
